Last but not the least, how can we not be grateful to our mother nature. Owing to which environment awareness camps, cleanliness drives and plantation programs are a common occurrence from time to time. We are happy to mention that, SEWA is the care taker of a vast forest land covering an area 46,250 Bighas at Singloo Pathar under Abhaipur Reserve Forest of Charaideo District, Assam, where we are currently conducting Our Bamboo Forest Management Program. We are really aware of the alarming rates of Carbon emission by 6 Green House Gases and its adverse effects on environment. So we are currently focusing on project based UN’s KYOTO Protocol which has established binding greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets for 37 industrialized countries and the European community. To help achieve these targets, the protocol introduced three "flexible mechanisms" – international emissions trading (IET), joint implementation (JI), and the clean development Mechanism (CDM). Among them, CDM has arguably been the most successful of the three flexible mechanisms and are already exercising two such projects in collaboration with an US based Organisation. One of such projects is named “SHINE” where we are distributing LED bulbs in exchange of Incandescent Lights Bulbs where later one is disposed to obtain CER’s (Certified Emission Reduction). Another one is a newly developed biomass cook stove which has much higher thermal efficiency than the traditional cook stoves by utilizing very less fossil fuel. This two are CDM based program which are now in operation in Assam. Till now we have delivered this project to more than 1,21,000 (One Lakh Twenty One Thousand) participating households in seven districts of Assam. Besides we are also installing Solar Powered Street Lamps in various unelectrified areas where public movement is prominent. Other major projects undertaken by SEWA in this sector are:
